- Jun 20, 2018 How to resolve audio driver issues that causes stuttering audio, crackling sound or lagging sound on windows computers.
- Change Your Audio Format. Click the “Advanced” tab and use the Default Format box to select your sound quality level. Try setting your audio quality to “16 bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality)”. Click “OK” afterwards and see if the crackling or other audio problems continue. This change can fix some audio problems.
- The audio crackling on your laptop might also be caused by DPC Latency. DPC is also known as “ Deferred Procedure Call ” and it is a part of Windows that handles the hardware drivers. If some driver takes too long to execute its operation, it can prevent other drivers such as your sound drivers to do their work smoothly.
Loud popping or crackling noises coming from your speakers can be annoying and can also be a sign that something is going on inside the speakers that is damaging them. Popping sounds are the result of a bad connection. The problem could lie in the cable, speakers, or another piece of equipment. Here are some tips to help you troubleshoot the issue. The sound quality coming off my iPhone is 10x better than the Windows app. Likewise at home, I can stream Spotify from both my Mac's wireless to my home theatre system and it sounds great. So it's only happening for me on the Windows client.
I have a Windows 7 computer with a Realtek Soundcard and have been having the popping/crackling noise problem during audio playback for over a year.
After trying numerous other suggestions, and aimlessly uninstalling and reinstalling various drivers on my computer, I tried the DPC Latency Checker and found out that my Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter was causing serious latency problems on my computer. I disabled it and, VOILA, no more popping/crackling.
